The Pre-and Post-operative, Pre and Post-irradiative Paper Electrophoretic Serum Protein Alterations in Cervical Cancer Patients

Abstract
In order to make observations . on pre-and post-operative, and also on pre-and pos -irradiative paper electrophoretic serum protein alterations in cervical cancer . patients, moist-chamber horizontal method, using sodium barbiturate-sodium acetate buffer, PH. 8.6, ionic strength 0.06, Whatman No.1 filter paper under the constant voltage and brom-phenol blue as dye with elution technique, was used.
Ten patients of stage -I-1I were subjected to pre-and post-operative study and ten atients of stage III-IV to pre-and post-irradiative study.
The¢¥ results are as, follows:
1) In cervical cancer, as in other malignant. diseases, electrophoretic serum protein fiactionation reveals a significant decrease in serum albumin, slight increase in at, 1,_2 and - gobulin and significant increase in -globulin.
2) Serum albumin decreases with direct proportion to the advance of cervical cancer but ;-globulin remains unchanged by the advance of the disease.
3) After X-ray irradiation treatment for cervical cancer stage III-IV, significant increasell in serum albumin, slight decrease in _1,_2. and -globulin were noted.
4) After operative treatment for cervical cancer stage I-II, slight decrease in, serum albumin, slight. increase in1,_2,. and -globulin, and slight decrease in -globulin were noted.
5) As the electrophoretic fractionation of serum protein after X-ray irradiation treatment for cervical . cancer stage III-IV shows the similar pattern to the normal one, it can be said that the electrophoretic serum protein alterations in cervical cancer patients is and indicator for therapeutic response and on early sign for recurrence.
